Ants
There is so much we can learn from and about ants. But one of the surprising fun facts about ants is their relationship with aphids.
Humans want nothing more than to exterminate aphids from their gardens and crops. Aphids sip the sap of plants, especially new growth, and cause extensive damage.
They will sometimes attack the roots, killing the plants altogether.
Ants, on the other hand, protect their flock of aphids. Aphids excrete a sugary liquid called honeydew. Ants gather this substance for food.

Earwigs
How did earwigs get such an unusual name? Some people believe they crawl into your ears to bite you while you are sleeping.
Don't worry - this is a myth.
It’s true that Earwigs are often found in the ears of corn. But that’s not how they get their name either.
Earwig comes from Old English eare and wicga – which means ear and insect.
Entomologists believe they are so-named because when they unfurl their wings, it resembles the human ear.

Praying Mantises
Have you ever tried sneaking up on a praying mantis? We have.
Its entire body can be facing away from you while you observe it up close without being noticed.
But don’t blink! A blink only takes 300 to 400 milliseconds or about 1/3 of a second. In that fraction of time, to your surprise, the praying mantis can turn its head and stare right at you with its five calculating eyes.
Another one of the fun facts you may not know: Praying mantises can turn their heads 180 degrees. Their reflexes are so quick that they are difficult to see with the naked eye.
Can you imagine how its prey must feel? Praying mantises are formidable predators.
Bugs and Insects are the Same Thing, Right?
The quick answer to this is no, but not in the way you might think.
The word ‘Bug’ is short for True Bug. A True Bug is one of the many orders of insects, scientifically known as Hemiptera.
This means that all bugs are insects, but not all insects are bugs!
