Why do I Have Spiders?
To get rid of spiders, you need to start with understanding why they are in your house. Like all pests, they enter seeking food, water, and shelter. Other insects and easy entrance invite spider infestation.
While some spiders stay outside, many can find the ideal conditions to mate and build a home inside your house.
During the cold of fall and winter in some states, and the extreme heat of summer in others, it may be as simple as spiders getting out of the weather. Other times they are escaping heavy rains.
While you cannot control the weather, you can make your home less inviting. Removing entry points will also help you get rid of spiders. Keeping spiders out is easier than getting them out.

How to Get Rid of Spiders
Spiders enter through tiny openings.
They can slip in when you leave a door or window open.
There are some simple steps you can take to make your home less appealing.
Vacuum, dust, and sweep regularly
Make sure you hit behind the furniture and use the attachments around doors and windows. When you sweep, be sure to mop. Removing the food source that attracts insects reduces the chances of spiders.
Clean clutter
Stacks of paperwork, boxes of storage, piles of clothes, anything that sits undisturbed is an ideal home for spiders. Outside, remove unnecessary shrubbery, trees, and plants from around the house. Trim branches back so they do not touch the home. Keep firewood, rockpiles, and other objects away from the base.
Inspect anything you bring inside
Bags, clothes, mail, shoes, your kids and pets, any of them can carry a spider in. The more vigilant you are the less you have to work to get rid of spiders.
Change grocery habits
Switch to cloth bags and wash them regularly. Wash all fruits and vegetables when you bring them in. Unwashed fruits and vegetables may house egg sacs of non-native spider species.
Clean the air ducts
Once a year. Keep your flue closed when your fireplace is not in use.
Reduce light
Outside, keep the lights off when you are not using them. Consider switching to yellow lights. Make sure you are using opaque blinds and curtains to reduce light from the inside. Spiders are not attracted to light, but their food is.
Seal your home
Find the small cracks and crevices that spiders slip through in your window sills, foundation, and walls. Seal them or have a professional do it.
