As soon as the weather starts to cool off, the bugs and insects start to come in. Just like people, most pests want a nice, warm spot to call home.
The fall weather is the perfect time for pests to start to move indoors so this is the time of year that you need to follow a few easy steps to prepare your home for the incoming pests.
Croach® has prepared a list of things you can do to help prevent these fall pests from getting in.
Fall Insect Invaders Checklist
Seal Up
Take time to go around your home and look for cracks and holes. Pests don’t need a very big space to get in so take time to look closely. Most holes are close to the base of the home and can be sealed with caulk that can be purchased at a local hardware store.
You should also take time to check all the weather stripping around doors and windows.
The best time to do this is when there is light and you can see where the light is getting in the house through the gaps. If you see light getting in, you can be sure that the space is big enough to let in a pest. New weather stripping can be purchased from any hardware store and installed as well.
Remove Debris
Pests like to hide anywhere they can find a gap. If you have debris around your house, pests can hide there and look for a way into the home.
Remove any extra debris from around the home including entryways and walkways that lead up to the front door. Newspaper bundles and firewood stacks can also invite pests to start living close to your home.
Seal Food
Fall insect invaders are always looking for an easy meal so take time to seal up any open food. Food that is left open is a direct invitation for a pest to have a meal. You also should be sure to sweep the kitchen up and wash any dishes that are left out. Pests don’t need much to eat so some small crumbs are like a feast to a pest.
Spray
The last way to make sure that pests are not getting inside is to schedule a professional pest control company to come out and spray around your home. This acts as a barrier that will deter pests from getting in. Call Croach® to set up service today!
