How to Get Rid of Ants Kennewick, WA

Ants are a danger to your family if they infest your home. They cause damage to your property by eating away and destroying the wood structures. Their bites can be painful and also cause health risks. Additionally, ants in the house attract other pests to invade your home seeking ants as prey, as spiders do. Dramatic Improvement!

We had a big problem with ants in our house and around our yard, especially in the landscape rocks and around the house foundation. There was a dramatic improvement after the first application. Croach even sent someone out in between applications to re-treat when needed. And, we feel good about their product being safe for pets. The staff is very friendly and a pleasure to do business with. We give our highest recommendation.

Carpenter Ants

These are large ants that can be beneficial in aiding the decomposition of dead trees in nature, but they're a huge problem when they find their way into our homes. Unlike termites, carpenter ants don't feed on wood structures but instead tunnel through and use it as their nesting sites, and in the process, they damage and weaken the structure of your house.

Odorous House Ants

You can easily identify odorous house ants by the foul smell they emit when crushed. The smell is described as somewhat like rotten coconut. While they usually nest in the woods, along rivers, and under the bark of tree stumps, they enter houses searching for sugary foods and meat, creating their nests in walls and floor voids. They cultivate aphids, similar to a rancher raising cattle for milk and meat.

Velvety Tree Ants

This species is also known as the pine tree ant because they often reside in pine trees. They are sometimes confused with odorous house ants because they too produce a coconut-like odor. The major concern of the velvety tree ant is the damage they can do when they infest wood structures.

Pavement Ants

These ants prefer nesting in cracks of pavements, and that is where their name is drawn from. They are light brown to reddish brown, with parallel grooves on the head and thorax. In yards, they live deep under the soil, but when given a chance, they invade our trash cans and homes to find pet kibble, crumbs and leftover food. They can sting and create unsightly piles of sand on driveways, patios, sidewalks and basements.

Pharaoh Ants

This is a non-native species, originating from Africa, hence its name. These very small, yellow ants are omnivorous, meaning they eat a wide range of food, including dead insects, bacon, meat, sweet drinks, sugary foods, honey, peanut butter, milk spills, and baked goods.

How to Prevent Ants from Infesting Your Home

Ants are attracted to food which they need to nourish their colony. During the cold, relatively rainy winters in Kennewick, WA, ants send out scouts to search for suitable nesting sites in houses with a source of food and water. Once a desirable location is found, the colony moves in, and suddenly you have an infestation.

Should you come into contact with a scout ant, you can take immediate precautions by:

  • Cleaning your dishes right away, because ants quickly find food leftovers.
  • Sweep and vacuum regularly to remove crumbs from floors.
  • Wipe down common surfaces because ants are attracted to sweet sticky surfaces of drink spills.
  • Store your food in sealed containers.

While you might try to get rid of ants on your own, often your D-I-Y efforts are just not good enough. Croach® Pest Control can get rid of these ants for you. Contact us to schedule a FREE pest inspection in your home or office.
